POKOTABI / Tam Tam
石釜bakebread茶房 TAM TAM
Tucked along an alley in Jimbocho, Tam Tam serves its signature stone-oven-baked hotcakes, French toast, and piping-hot baked curry in a relaxed, classic kissaten setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Tucked into a side alley just steps from Jimbocho Station, Tam Tam draws a steady stream of patrons who come for one signature item above all: thick hotcakes carefully baked in a stone oven. Each order arrives with commanding height, boasting a crisp, aromatic golden-brown crust that yields to an airy, tender interior under the knife. As a pat of butter melts across the warm surface, dollops of lightly sweetened whipped cream and syrup pull everything together, accentuating the wholesome, eggy crumb with rich satisfaction.
The sweet options extend well beyond hotcakes. Tam Tam's stone-oven French toast is thoroughly saturated with custard batter, developing a delicate, melt-in-the-mouth texture. For toast devotees, the menu offers almond toast spread with almond butter, baked in the stone oven, and served alongside cold vanilla ice cream, as well as a cheese toast combining 3 varieties of cheese with sweet honey.
Among the savory options, the stone-oven-baked curry is a perennial favorite. Brought to the table piping hot in its baking dish, mild curry sauce mingles with molten cheese and an egg, creating a mellow richness that pairs effortlessly with rice. Heartier appetites are also catered to with warming options such as beef stew loaded with beef and vegetables, or a chicken cream stew with tender thigh meat, potatoes, and mushrooms.
The beverage selection includes a robust blended drip coffee, iced coffee, Viennese coffee crowned with whipped cream, citrusy yuzu black tea studded with fruit pulp, and an array of herbal teas. Because many of the stone-oven items require extra time to bake, visits are best enjoyed at an unhurried pace, soaking in the calm atmosphere while watching steam rise from your cup.
